Tax Power for the Self-Employed addresses the specific and particular tax laws and regulations facing a self-employed individual. Unlike other small businesses, it focuses on the individual who either runs a single-person small business (or one with an otherwise limited number of employees) or the person who does something to make extra money that he or she may consider a hobby or side job, but from which the IRS expects tax to be paid.& & Discussions of specific concern to the self-employed person include Schedule C deductions, with particular emphasis on changes in Sec. 179 deductions that target self-employed individuals for increased capital investments. Additional attention is placed on strategies for taking deductions to lower income subject to the self-employed tax, a totally separate tax from income tax. An entire chapter is devoted to the self-employment tax and Schedule SE.& & With the latest IRS rules, regulations and decisions, as well as tax-planning strategies, any self-employed individual can feel confident that they are meeting all of their tax requirements while maximizing their tax savings.&

Customer Rating: Summary: Tax Power is already a Trade Mark of Powers Tax Service Comment: If you google Tax Power the Powers Tax Services site will come up showing that the phrase Tax Power is a trademark of Powers & Company and has been since 1999. There is absolutely no association between this book and Powers & Company or Powers Tax Service or the Tax Power website. Customer Rating: Summary: Dont waste your money Comment: While the title is somewhat impressive, the content is much less so. It goes into very little detail about aspects of the tax law which are critical to self employed individuals. The later chapters address issues such as dependents, charitable contributions, child tax credit and other items which are more related to the personal portion of ones return than ones self employed business.
To make matters worse the book is poorly laid out with long paragraphs and few visual organization clues. Moreover, at the end of some of the chapters are lists which really dont relate back to the content covered in the chapter. While useful, they arent connected.
Save your money and buy another book. Self Employed Tax Solutions by June Walker is head and shoulders better than this book in my opinion as are many others on the market.
